Writing Curriculum
LEARN schools utilize the Writing Workshop model for one hour of differentiated writing instruction daily. Similar to the Reading Workshop, the Writing Workshop allows instructors to meet the needs of students by differentiating instruction and gearing instruction based on the identified needs of students.
The Writing Workshop utilized on a daily basis allows students to:
- Communicate effectively through writing for a variety of purposes and for different audiences
- Employ varying ranges of strategies during the writing process
- Apply knowledge of language structure, conventions, genre, etc. to create various products
- Learn and use editing techniques to improve quality of writing
Students use various writing strategies (pre-writing, revising, drafting, editing, etc.) in order to develop as creative, thoughtful writers. Instructors use one-on-one and small group conferences daily in order to talk with students about the strengths and weaknesses of their writing and to show scholars how to improve their work.
