Dear Friends of LEARN,

Last month’s graduation ceremonies were a time of exceptional excitement for our graduates, staff, and families. After a tough couple of years, we were able to gather and celebrate the accomplishments of our scholars and offer our support as they take the next step in their academic journey. With summer underway, our LEARN Graduating Class of 2022 is one step closer to attending some of the top high schools in Chicago, Lake County, and across our country.

Graduation ceremonies truly reflect all aspects of LEARN’s mission. In these special events, we as a network:

  • Congratulate and recognize our graduates on their hard work and outstanding achievements, both in academics and in their social-emotional growth;
  • Celebrate the joy that scholars, staff, and families feel in this pivotal time; and
  • Commit to our promise of supporting graduates to and through high school, college, and beyond

The LEARN Class of 2022

We are so proud of the LEARN Class of 2022. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, our scholars persevered and excelled inside and outside of the classroom. We can’t wait to see all of the great things they accomplish in the years to come.

  • LEARN graduated 401 scholars across Chicago, North Chicago/Great Lakes and Waukegan
  • 87% of graduates will be attending college-prep high schools this Fall. This impressive list of high schools includes:
    • Boarding schools: Lake Forest, Interlochen Arts Academy, and Woodlands Academy
    • Selective Enrollment schools: Jones College Prep, King College Prep, Lane Tech College Prep, Gwendolyn Brooks High School, Westinghouse, Whitney Young
    • Private/Faith-Based schools: De La Salle Institute, Mother McAuley High School, Providence St. Mel High School, Marist High School, North Shore Country Day, Beacon Academy

  • The LEARN Graduating Class of 2022 received a host of scholarship awards totaling over $200,000, including:
    • 5 HFS Chicago Scholars Scholarships
    • 5 LINK Unlimited Scholarships
    • 9 Daniel Murphy Scholarships
    • 4 Ali Scholarships
    • 3 Drama Scholarships
    • 1 National Honor Society Scholarship

Spotlight on Drama Scholarship Recipients

Each year, three LEARN scholars are chosen to receive the Drama Scholarship, a full scholarship to some of the most selective schools across Illinois and the country. Funded by an anonymous donor, this scholarship is a wonderful gift that enables our scholars to pursue their dreams into high school and beyond.

Congratulations to this year’s recipients! Alijah, Zeko, and Janicel have excelled during their time at LEARN, both onstage and in the classroom.

LEARN 10 Celebrates Inaugural Graduating Class

Our LEARN 10 campus in North Chicago is excited to share the successes of their first graduating class. As Principal Matthew Larsen states:

“Our Class of 2022 were truly LEARN 10 pioneers. This special group of students and families put their trust in LEARN 10 at the start, and were charged with founding each grade level through 8th grade. This unique group now embarks to excellent high schools from North Chicago to Kenosha. Through their diligence, integrity and tenacity, the future success of LEARN 10 will be built on the shoulders of this class of students.”

Congratulations, LEARN 10 graduates!

LEARN’s mission and the impact of your support extend beyond graduation day. The commitment to our graduates’ success and well-being continues through the college application process, the completion of a degree, and the transition to a fulfilling career. Thank you for being part of our community as we continue this important work into the next school year and beyond.

Warm Regards,
