Nonprofit ventures feel their missions ‘align perfectly’ at new North Chicago after-school program

In partnership with the LEARN Charter School Network, the Boys & Girls Club of Lake County has opened an after-school program at the LEARN 6 charter school in North Chicago.

The program rolled out last month at the Sheridan Road facility with enrollment open for up to 100 of the 460 students ages 6 to 14 who attend LEARN 6 with a goal to provide support in their academic success.

At a ribbon-cutting celebration Wednesday, officials said about 60 students are already registered, and they foresee more will join within the coming months.

Cesilie Price, chief executive officer of the Boys & Girls Club of Lake County, thanked LEARN officials for their collaboration Wednesday over cookies and lemonade and said working together makes sense due to the two organizations’ similar goals to make kids a priority.

“We feel very strongly that the missions of our organizations align perfectly,” Price said.

The Boys and Girls Club after school programs provide families a safe place where their students can go after school, with supervision that extends to academic guidance and character-building experiences, officials said.
