Program Highlight: Investing in our Team (December 2023)

LEARN is committed to supporting our team throughout their career progression. In the past year, LEARN has invested in dozens of teammates to earn their bachelors’ degrees and teaching certifications by partnering with the Relay Graduate School of Education, National Louis University, and other institutes of higher education.

This month, we are shining a light on Marcus Pass, who has been part of the LEARN network for five years and is currently a Diverse Learner Teacher at LEARN Campbell. Mr. Pass graduated with a Master’s of Arts in Teaching and teaching license, along with an endorsement in diverse learning from the Relay Graduate School of Education.

Who encouraged you to participate in Relay?

My first principal at Learn South Chicago, Mr. Lewis, encouraged me to participate in the program. He said to me, “If you see yourself staying in education, then Relay is the way to go.”

How has LEARN supported you throughout your professional development?

LEARN has surrounded me with tremendous support from staff, friends, mentors and Relay teachers. When times were difficult and stressful, LEARN allowed me to grow and learn as I developed into the person I am now. I’ve learned a great deal and am eternally grateful.

What’s the best advice you can give to someone interested in Relay?

Do it, don’t hold back or waste time! Don’t doubt your ability or mental capacity to handle the workload. You can do it, and LEARN will work with you and the professors at Relay will do the same. I had a great experience with all of my professors and I don’t regret it.
