Dear Friends of LEARN:
Today is the first day of school at LEARN’s ten campuses in Chicago, North Chicago and Waukegan! There is always an electric energy this time of year, but I am especially excited for this school year for three reasons:
The 2021-2022 school year marks LEARN’s 20th anniversary serving Chicago’s children.
Over the last two decades, LEARN has made a lasting impact on our communities through our rigorous academics, support for students’ and families’ well-being, and high school and college placement and support. I am especially proud to have a number of LEARN alumni serving as teachers and staff at our schools, preparing the next generation of community leaders.
We are thrilled to open our first campus outside Illinois: LEARN D.C.
In recognition of LEARN’s success in bringing military and civilian families together for a high-quality education in North Chicago/Great Lakes, D.C. families chose LEARN to open a new campus on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C. We will host a ribbon cutting on Thursday, August 26, and officially open LEARN D.C.’s doors to students on August 30. We cannot wait to bring LEARN’s school model to the nation’s capital.
LEARN scholars and staff are back to in-person learning.
It has been a long road to the day where nearly every one of our scholars are learning in our school buildings. We have closely followed public health guidance and consulted with staff and families to develop protocols to keep our school community safe. By increasing the staff available at each of our campuses, we will continue to support our students’ and families’ health and academic learning. We are excited to update you on how the school year unfolds.
We are grateful to our entire LEARN community for their unwavering commitment to our scholars and are excited for what the year ahead will bring.
