LEARN D.C., Applying to be a Purple Star School

LEARN DC is proud to serve the Joint Base Anacostia Bolling community.  Our school serves the highest percentage of military students in Washington D.C. and is the only school to offer an application preference to military students.  As part of our deep commitment to meeting the needs of our military students and families, we are applying to become a Purple Star school.

Purple Star schools make the following commitments to affirm their support of military students and families:

• Assign a liaison to be the single point of contact for military families and military-connected students who is trained to support issues that face military families, including relocation, deployment, loss and academic training
• Create a website for military families to provide current information about their school
• Adhere to the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission to ensure that students receive transfer credit from previous schools and do not have to retake classes
• Ensure that transfer students can participate in sports, clubs and other school enrichment programs
• Provide specialized training for school counselors, staff and administrators.
