Dear Friends of LEARN,

LEARN’s 8th grade students experienced an exceptional year during the most challenging circumstances. In spite of many hurdles and complexities, our 8th grade graduates were accepted to many of the nation’s best high schools.

This is our passion and mission — to provide our scholars with the academic foundation and ambition to earn a college degree. We achieve this goal by intentionally placing our scholars in the very best college prep high schools and supporting them throughout their college careers.

LEARN Graduates Accepted to Top High Schools

The Class of 2021 persevered through their last year at LEARN. This resilient, ambitious and intelligent cohort of scholars were accepted to some of the best schools in the nation.

Here are more exciting facts about our graduates:

  • LEARN graduated 332 scholars across Chicago, North Chicago/Great Lakes and Waukegan — the most 8th grade graduates in our 20 years history!
  • 87% of LEARN graduates were accepted to college-prep high schools including Chicago’s selective enrollment high schools including Lindblom, Gwendolyn Brooks, Whitney Young and Lane Tech, boarding schools like Woodlands Academy and Lake Forest Academy and private schools like Beacon Academy, Roycemore School, Chicago Academy of the Arts, Cristo Rey St. Martin and Carmel Catholic.
  • Many scholars were accepted into competitive scholarship programs such as the Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund, LINK Unlimited, HFS Chicago Scholars, and HighSight.

LEARN 9 Celebrates Inaugural Graduating Class

Our Waukegan campus is excited to share the successes of their first graduating class. As Principal Maytee Diez states, “This class is very special. Not only to our school’s history since most of them started as 3rd graders when we first opened, but most importantly they are extremely unique because they have paved the way for other scholars to continue their leadership legacy. These scholars are published authors, confident public speakers, future newscasters, and so much more.” Congratulations.

Meet More Excellent 8th Grade Graduates

We are so proud of our 8th grade graduates. At LEARN 8 Middle School, NBC Chicago recognized the Williams-Orr triplets. Aaron, Brandon, and Christopher graduated at the top of their class as #1 (Valedictorian), #2 (Salutatorian) and #3 (3rd highest GPA). Read about them here!

In North Chicago/Great Lakes, graduate Ajaie Ells gained acceptance and a scholarship to attend Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan. Through the LEARN 6 Drama Program, Ajaie became enthralled with the arts, which led him to pursue this boarding school. He hopes to become a performer one day.

I am so proud of the accomplishments of the Class of 2021. Our relationship with our scholars and families does not end on graduation day. Through our growing Alumni Support Program, many scholars participate in our paid Summer Internship Program and all scholars receive support through high school and college.

Thank you for your support and belief in our mission.

Warm Regards,

Greg White, President & CEO
