About LEARN D.C. & JBAB

Welcome to LEARN D.C., a tuition-free, open-enrollment public elementary school that’s uniquely situated on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB). Currently offering an exceptional learning experience from PreK-3 to 4th grade for the 2024-25 school year, LEARN D.C. is proudly expanding our learning community each year with the goal of eventually serving scholars up to 8th grade.

We are deeply committed to creating a safe, stable, and nurturing environment that lays the foundation for lifelong learning. Our focus on academic rigor is complemented by strong social-emotional support, ensuring a balanced approach to education. As part of the renowned LEARN Charter School Network, our school provides a quality education that not only prepares our youngest scholars for higher education but also for a fulfilling life beyond college. We proudly extend this commitment to both military and non-military families.

Who We Are

LEARN D.C. was established in August 2021 with the mission to provide children with the academic foundation and ambition to earn a college degree. Our school promotes a culture of respect and high expectations for both staff and scholars. We believe in creating a safe and nurturing environment where scholars can build their confidence and develop problem-solving skills.

Beyond The Classroom

At LEARN D.C., we believe that learning extends beyond the traditional classroom. Our comprehensive curriculum, covering English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, is enhanced by a rich array of ‘extras’ that make our school truly unique. Our proximity to our nation’s capital grants our scholars with access to enriching field trips to historic landmarks, museums, and premier theater venues, shaping their education with unforgettable learning experiences. In addition, our scholars are also given opportunities to express their creativity in an after-school music+ program, among other arts programs.

We focus on personalized learning, employing differentiated instruction to cater to each scholar’s unique needs. To foster the development of the whole child, we have implemented Second Step, a research-based social-emotional learning curriculum. These diverse experiences cultivate well-rounded scholars, prepared for the challenges and opportunities that await them beyond the school gates.

Each year, LEARN DC broadens its Anchored4Life Crew, aiming to reach more students. Anchored4Life is dedicated to supporting students, schools, and communities through essential resources, mentorship programs, and impactful outreach initiatives. The organization extends financial support to students through future scholarship opportunities, collaborates with schools to improve learning environments by providing resources like textbooks and technology, and conducts community outreach projects, including literacy programs and health workshops. This year, LEARN DC students partnered with Horton Kids of DC to create and distribute essential family kits, exemplifying a commitment to holistic positive development and community well-being.

Unique Benefits at LEARN D.C.

Military Family Focus
Understanding the unique needs of military families, we’ve designed our school to help facilitate transitions and provide stability for our scholars. Military-affiliated scholars have access to a Military Family Life Counselor, aiding their transition to and from other schools.

Benefits of Our Location
Situated on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB), LEARN D.C. is able to provide our scholars with access to many base resources, specialized educational programs, and smaller class sizes. Students benefit from diverse perspectives due to the military community, enhanced security measures, and opportunities for extracurricular activities supported by the military infrastructure. Recently, scholars were invited by the US Coast Guard to visit the USCGC Lawrence Lawson Ship as it was passing through D.C. and had a special presentation from members of the Secret Service regarding Cyber Security.

Enrichment Classes
We offer enrichment classes, college readiness programs, and a preschool program in partnership with AppleTree Early Learning PCS. Our extended day and year programs as well as the restorative justice program further enrich our scholars’ learning experience.

Proven Track Record
At LEARN D.C., all our scholars are nurtured within an environment of high expectations and dedicated support from our caring teachers.

Community Involvement
Family involvement and leadership are essential to us. We believe in fostering strong community ties, which is why we welcome both military and non-military families. All parents are encouraged to participate in our Parent Teacher Organization. For more information about our PTO, please email learndcpto23@gmail.com
